Destination and Settling-In Services

Taking care of the details

Settling in. It sounds so simple. But in reality, for someone from another country, it means learning a new way of doing even basic, everyday things. Settling in requires a lot of legwork, from finding new doctors and schools to obtaining legal documents and home furnishings.

That's why DFW Orientation Services has created a detailed checklist of items that must be handled during the settling in process. What's more, we walk each transferee through the checklist, helping them every step of the way with:

  • getting acquainted with their new city
  • purchasing or leasing a house or apartment
  • obtaining services including phone, electricity, gas, cable, etc.
  • registering children for school and daycare
  • obtaining a driver's license and Social Security card
  • buying or leasing an auto
  • establishing relationships with healthcare providers
  • shopping for home furnishings, groceries and personal needs
  • understanding how to use emergency numbers for police, fire and rescue
  • registering with their home country embassy or consulate, as well as local authorities when applicable
  • providing a detailed information kit that includes a resource handbook covering everything from A to Z, books about the new community and culture, maps, general information about the area and forms to obtain proper documentation

Even after walking through the checklist, our job is not done. We offer ongoing telephone support to the employee and their family members, to ensure they have the help they need.
